Allen “Chub” Burgess:
8/17/1937 - 7/10/2016
Allen Lee Burgess- “Chub” – 78, passed away peacefully at his home on July 10, 2016. He was preceded in his death by the love of his life and wife of 52 years, Barbara Burgess, and his parents, Robert and Evelyn Burgess.
“Chub”, as he was known to everyone was born in Casper, Wyoming in 1937. Growing up, he was a star athlete, and an avid hunter even though later in his life, he began to have a true appreciation for all wildlife and passed that respect and love along to his sons. A true cowboy at heart, Chub loved the Rodeo throughout his life and often could be found in front of the television any time a bull riding championship was televised.
After high school, Chub joined the United States Army and spent time overseas travelling Europe.
His love of travel would eventually become a part of his career after moving to California in 1961, as a Salesman for engine protection systems for Sentinal and Racor Industries respectively. Chub traveled the world and that love of travelling was also passed on to his sons. Chub was an artist and could often be found in his garage making art out of wood, and carving art out of landscape trimmings. All throughout his life and up to end, he never lost the wonder and joy of watching the hummingbirds in his backyard or seeing stars too bright for a Bakersfield night.
Chub loved his wife, his family, his job and was an inspiration to anyone he met. Chub could make you feel like you’ve known him a lifetime with just one conversation. His stories from all his adventures throughout his life always captivated everyone he met. And after the passing of his wife, Barbara, it is comforting to know that Chub and Barb are together again, probably on a bench somewhere watching people pass by.
He is survived by his brother Larry and wife Sharon of Wyoming; son Scott Burgess and his wife Nicky, son Jeff and partner, Holly Carlyle; grandchildren Austin and Cheyenne; and his great granddaughter, Riley.
Services for Chub will be held on Friday, July 29, 2016 at 2PM. At the Bakersfield National Cemetery in Arvin, California. The Family asks that in lieu of flowers, that are temporary, that the gift of a blood donation to the Houchin Blood Bank be made in his honor.
